The pain I feel at the assasination of Yitzhak Rabin is rooted in my life-long participation in the struggle for peace with justice. That one with his history could become a major advocate for peace was a true sign of hope. That his light was snuffed out by True Believers, nationalists, and fundamentalist reactionaries is a sign of the times I find most troublesome. That his death did not scuttle the peace process is reason for great thanksgiving. Yours on the Journey Toward Shalom with Justice! The Rev. Jeremy Edward McLeod

When a man of such integrity and genuine peacefulness is cut down by a man without compassion, not all is lost. The loving man, the compassionate man, the man who strives for peace and compromise shall always be strong, even in death. My sorrow reaches out to you, but with it I feel a sense of hope. Now the world may unite under the realization that cold-blodded murder is not only wasteful and saddening, but simply infantile. Evil. Without a thought for what is truly right. Certainly Rabin should still be alive; but the coming together in sadness of the mourners of the world holds, in itself, the greatest power.

The first kind, are the people that makes the changes in the world (but in a possitive way), and they are just a few. And the second kind, are those that steal from us the people that we need to follow, killing and destroying not just a human being, but they take away an escential part of this world's body. To the family of Mr. Rabin; May God be with you and help you through these times. My heart is heavy with the realization of what has been done, not only to you as a family, but to the World. God sets more things before some men than He does before others. Some men, seeing what the Lord has given them to do, run and hide. Others, such a Mr. Rabin, can only think to thank God for the opportunity and to do what is right in his heart and his mind. Be at peace. Know that Yitzhak did what was good and right in his lifetime, whether it was as a man of war or as a man of peace. Wayne Olson

We are shocked and saddened by the assassination of Prime Minister Rabin. Our mood here is somber and mournful as we contemplate the consequences of this awful act. We hope and pray that the work he started in trying to settle differences with Israel's neighbors will be continued, and that both sides (Palestinians and Israelis) will have a new respect for life. I remember hearing "Ambassador Rabin" speak at an assembly at Cornell University back in the early 1970's, and since then we have all come to know his courage. We can only hope that his death was not in vain. Our love goes out to the family and all the people of Israel. American Jews are united with you, and as you saw at the funeral, so too is the American government. Never before have so many heads of state from so many foreign countries honored a Jewish person. Shir La'Shalom rings in our ears forever. B'shalom.

To the People of the State of Israel: How could I add to the many eloquent voices that have expressed their regret and total shock of the senseless murder of the Prime Minister? It is impossible to express my sense of loss and total abhorrence of the bloddy deed committed by the assassin. I am particularly concerned now that Mr. Rabin's murder will be used as a weapon of hatred against Orthodox Jews and Religious Jews in particular. The assassin clearly does not represent the ideals of Judaism nor does he represent the universalistic notions espoused by Religious Zionism. It is my hope that all of the people of Israel will have the strength to overcome the tradegy and that peace will be achieved in the land of Israel.

W Rabin.

This is a on-the-fly translation of what I wrote in Hebrew, and it isn't good in English. The Hebrew version was sent to the Rabin family: Nov. 4/1995 Copyright Gal Kaminka 1995 Yitzhak Rabin (1922-1995) ------------------------- A big man was shot today By a little man, so very little That wasn't even little, When the big man was already big. That couldn't have grown up, If the big man hadn't done his big deeds. A big man was murdered today, By a little man. So little, That he couldn't face The big ideas of the big man. Ideas that have been and are still bigger than him, bigger than the little man. And there aren't big enough words, For the size of the lesson - Little men need to be stopped, when the are still little. Very little. Now. And there isn't a hope, bigger then my hope, That little men can kill big men, but not big ideas, and not big deeds, and not a big vision, of a big - big - big man, truly.

I was deeply distressed and shocked after hearing of the assasination. Even though I did not agree with all the conditions of the peace talk, killing was not the way to solve a problem. We, jews, have to stand together in order to secure the survival of Israel, not fight against each other. No one wants to face the loss of the land, aquired with sweat and blood, however, taking of the life would not be an appropriate answer. I am also very dissapointed with the failure of Massad to secure the safety of its leader. My condolences to the family and the memory of Yitzhak Rabin as a fighter for peace will stay with us.

Dear Mrs. Rabin and Children, Please accept the condolences from the entire Amrani family in Milwaukee, WI, USA. We all feel that your husband was a great leader who recognized that peace needed a chance. Even though I have always been conservative about giving land for peace, I truly believe that your husband understood the risks and potential benefit to Israel in his actions. It goes without saying that his desire to shake Yasir Arafat's hand in Sept. 1993 was clearly a great effort on his part. His years of tremendous service to Israel will not be forgotten. May your memory of him be of a man of peace even in times of war. Try to comfort yourselves with the understanding that most of us loved him from afar and greatly admired him. Inspired by Rabin's total dedication to the peace process, we have been tireless and vocal supporters of his policies and goals. We are outraged that he had to be murdered in order for a vast "silent majority" to speak out for the cause that took his life.

His loss is not only one which is shared by his family, his country, but by all peoples on this earth who truly believe, as he must have, that peace and harmony amongst nations, is a pre-condition to ushering in the era which the creator of all men and women has in mind. Dear Rabin Family and Israel, Your sacrifice is truly sad and all of you have my heartfelt sympathies, respect, and love. He is and will be considered the Greatest Gift of Peace to the world since- no one even comes to mind who would even parallel his accomplishments in this century even. In death, sadly, he is still a true Man of Peace. He has brought world leaders together with thoughts of peace that would have never spoken only a month ago. His ultimate sacrifice will continue to bring Israel and the rest of the world this peace and security that we all crave and look forward to. My sorrows are with his family for their great loss. My joy is with his family that they have so much to be proud of, that he was of them, and loved them. Israel, all of our prayers are with you, for peace. May God Bless All of You! Shalom!

I am 11 years old; here is a poem that I wrote about Mr. Rabin: A soildier, a leader, a jew, Yitzhak. A Grandfather,a father,a friend,Yitzhak. A husband,a person like you and me,Yitzhak. A Prime minister with heart,Yitzhak. A person who made some peace in Israel, Yitzhak. A person who made peace elsewhere,Yitzhak. A person who made his dreams come true,Yitzhak. A person who won and deserved the nobel peace prize,Yitzhak. A person who is united with Hashem,Yitzhak. He was a great, loving man. Now,all that is left to say is: GOODBYE, SHALOM, MR. RABIN, WE WILL MISS YOU! PEACE... Sincerely, Kate Cohen, Atlanta,Georgia, United States of America.

Dear Mrs. L. Rabin, Please accept my deepest condolences for the untimely demise of your husband, the late Prime Minister of Israel. In the Philippines, we also lost a great leader in the assasination of Sen. Beningno Aquino in 1986. He was a man just like your Mr. Rabin, who had a vision and mission hto help their respective people. In the process of their work, they both paid the ultimate price with their own lives for their respective nations. I will always remember what Mr. Aquino said - "The Pilipino is worth dying for". I am sure Mr. Rabin also felt the same way. My prayers and best wishes for you and your family. Respectfully, Jun Marcos Dallas TX

To the Rabin family we send our heartfelt condolences. My mother reminded us recently of one of many memories we have of Prime Minister Rabin. Back in the late 1980's when the Labor party was not in power, Prime Minister Rabin came to Los Angeles to meet community leaders and to raise money for the Labor party. He agreed to devote one evening of his very busy schedule to the Golda Meir Association, of which I was the West Coast Director. He spoke persuasively to a very large crowd of people. After his speech as he was leaving (after a very long day of meetings) I introduced him to my parents, who had attended the event. He stopped and took a few minutes to visit with my parents and say some very complimentary things about me. What my mother remembered and understood was here was a leader of international importance with a very demanding schedule, who had a reputation for no nonsence, who took the time to connect to and be kind to my parents. I know that Itzak was a great man, working for peace in Israel. When I watched the funeral, I had tears in my eyes. I would like to send a messege to the girl, Im sorry I cant remember the name, who talked to her grandfather at the ceremony. I think you made an beutiful speech, and I know that you miss your grandfather a lot. I know I cant possible know how you feel, but I know how it feels to loose a person that you love. Ive lost everyone of my grandparents. With love, Anna
