I was saddened to hear of Mr. Rabin's assasination. For the first time

life it appeared as if traditional enemies in the Holy Land were
sincere in
their efforts to peacefully co-exist. After all of the violence and

underscores the necessity for peace. The greatest tribute that the

Prime Minister Rabin was a great inspiration to all who pray for peace;
his
death is a tragic, seemingly inconsolable loss not only to Israel but
to the
whole world.
When I heard news of his death Saturday afternoon, I wept openly, and I
was
grateful to be included in the memorial for him Monday at Stanford.
Though I
am not Jewish, Prime Minister Rabin has symbolized a great hope for me
in the
potential for enemies to make peace and to live as neighbors in
tolerance and
goodwill. Now may we resolve to follow his example of resolve, valor,
and
ultimately, sacrifice. And may God preserve the peacemaking work Rabin
has
left for others to complete.

It took quite a while for me to accept Rabin's death, in the hands of a Jew. I have great admiration for Rabin. To a certain extent, I have always look upon him as a hero, for few men would have the courage, strength and conviction to chose the path he took. True middle east peace seemed like a far fetched dream, but I was excited by it, I had believed that Rabin could do the impossible, just like he did years ago. Maybe he will still make it, I truly hope that his death wakes the Jewish people up. It's time for self examination. How did the assasination happen? Do you know what attracts me to Israel and the Jews? Their survival instinct and the ablility to face pain and extreme difficulties bravely and move on, as one. I hope they will carry on like this.
