Yitzhak Rabin Condolence Book

I received the news of Mr Rabin's death with great
shock.

I could not imagine the Israeli people could treat a peace

loving leader like that. Since I left Isreael (Dec, 1992),

I have been following the peace process in the Middle East

and all the achievements he has made.Surely Mr Rabin's

departure is not only a loss to you people of Israel, but

to all peace loving people of the world.

May God guide you during this period you are mourning.

May his soul rest in peace.

Why is it always the good guys who get assassinated?

Think about it: From the Gracchi to Gandhi, from King Henry IV to
Martin Luther King, whenever a leader emerges who has a chance to lead
us to the Promised Land, he gets killed. At this rate, the Nobel Peace
Prize is becoming a death warrant.

Oh sure, every once in a while somebody tries to knock off a baddie,
like Hitler. But they usually bungle the job.

Remember the myth of Sisyphus, the guy who was condemned to spend
eternity pushing a heavy boulder uphill, only to watch it roll downhill
side again? Now I know how he felt.

                     € € €

But maybe I¹m wrong. Maybe this tragedy will finally wake people up.
Maybe they¹ll follow Rabin¹s example and turn away from violence. Maybe
the Israelis will take stock and realize what a monster they¹ve created
in their own midst.

Ditto for some of my fellow American Jews, who have helped bankroll
these racist hate groups in Israel. The blood of Yitzhak Rabin is on
their hands, too.

Nah! Who do I think I¹m kidding? I¹ll bet there are plenty of
right-wing Jewish racists who are already sharpening their knives for
Shimon Peres.

And the guys who run Hamas are probably thinking, ³This is the perfect
time to knock off Arafat.²

Yeats once wrote that ³The best have lost all passion, while the worst
are full of passionate intensity.²

Is this true? Have we, the good people of this world, lost our passion?
Have we lost the will to shout down the haters among us?

And don¹t think we here in America are so superior to the Israelis.
After all, this is the country of Mark Furman and Lewis Farrakhan. Of
O.J. and Oklahoma City.

Every day we hear people on the right calling Bill Clinton a traitor.
And people on the left saying AIDS is a Jewish conspiracy to kill
blacks.

Like the Israelis, we¹ve spent decades trying to protect ourselves from
the external enemy, only to find that the real danger lies within. As
the philosopher Pogo Possum put it, ³We have met the enemy and they are
us.²

And, as Edmund Burke pointed out, ³All that is required for the triumph
of evil is for good men to do nothing.²

Having once made Aliya, and having children living

leader.

I met him once in Kiryat Wiesman while I was taking an after-lunch
stroll and he was visiting. He called me by my first name after we
were introduced. I was amazed that I was even allowed to approach.

The closeness of your leaders to the people amazes me still.

I wish for the country the continuance of his work, peace within your
borders and peace with your neighbors.

May my children and thier children knowing war no more.

To Leah, the Rabin Family and Israel,

As a soldier and a labour party member in my country I have always been
inspired by the example of Yitzhak Rabin. To me he symbolised all the
greatest elements of the tremendous experiment that has been Israel. He
captured the pioneer spirit I encountered in my time on the kibbutz Ein
Harod Meuchad in northern Israel and the courage of the Israeli
soldiers who have become my friends. His life was an incredible record
of service and devotion to duty from his teenage years to the age of
73. This character was no accident and I know his parents were also
heros of those early difficult years, volunteering to help the besieged
people of Jerusalem in the 1920s. This tells me that as parents it is
we who bear the first and greatest responsibility to instill such
values. It may not be realistic to expect that everyone should dedicate
almost every waking moment of their lives to the cause of peace and
freedom as Rabin did but at least we should endeavour to make some kind
of contribution to the progress of the human

spirit. I was interested to see the reaction of many Israelis was one
of guilt that they had remained silent during the days of viscious
demonstrations. To me the most difficult emotion to bear has always
been the sense of the lost opportunity to make a difference. The time
has come for men and women of goodwill to stand up and be counted, not
only in support of the fallen hero of Israel but of Ken Saro Wewa and
all the soldiers of peace who lead from the front.

I was a visitor in Israel recently for 4 days,
20-23rd 0ct `95, and felt aware of a general relaxation and openness
about the people compared with my visit of 10 years ago. 0n that
occasion there were armed soldiers everywhere. This assassination of
Mr. Rabin a few days later was all the more poignant because of this.
When conversing with people in Jerusalem during my stay, I found
evidence of an attempt at reconciliation in the minds and hearts of
many. Also great hope for a settled future.

It took great courage, and humility, for Mr. Rabin to become the great
Peacemaker he did become in such difficult circumstances. He did it
out of wisdom and love of his country, for the future. His
assassination was a misguided and cowardly act spawned from the seed of
hate. Israel must now make its choice whilst there is time.

I am 18 years old and completing my last year of
high school. For years I have gone to a Hillel Day School and I have
learned about my heritage and especially about Israel.

Yitzchak Rabin was a wonderful man who I have greatly looked up to as a
positive role model. We as a jewish nation have been through years of
procecution just because we were Jews.

One would feel that we have come a long way together as a Jewish nation
and that these experiances have formed a bond for every Jew. It makes
me sad to see that a fellow Jew would have enough anger inside to kill
another fellow Jew after all of these years.

I have learned in my eighteen years in this world that you must learn
from those who have experienced in order teach those who have not yet
experienced so that people do not become ignorant and do not forget.

We can learn a lot from Yitzhak Rabin for the next step we take in our
future.

L'ASSASSINAT

DE M. RABIN PEUT ÊTRE LA CLE D'UNE PAIX REELLE, D'UNE REMISE

EN CAUSE DE L'ETAT DE GUERRE PERMANENT. DE MEME QUE LE

TREMBLEMENT DE TERRE QUI A MEURTRI LE JAPON A MIS A MAL ET

LEUR FORCE ; L'INTANGIBILITÉ DU SENTIMENT NATIONAL,

DE LA TOUTE PUISSANCE, VOIRE DE LA PROTECTION DIVINE,

L'ASSASSINAT EN ISRAEL DE CELUI QUE L'HISTOIRE RETIENDRA

COMME LE GÉNÉRAL, L'HOMME DE GUERRE QUI A COMPRIS QUE

LA GUERRE N'EST PAS UNE FIN EN SOI, ET QU'IL N'EST PAS

HUMILIANT MAIS GRATIFIANT DE NÉGOCIER ET S'ATTABLER AVEC

SON ENNEMI. CET HOMME A FAIT FAIRE UN GRAND PAS A ISRAEL,

EN MONTRANT À SES PEUPLES, D'UNE PART QUE COMMUNIQUER

(COMMUNIER ) EST LA BASE DE TOUTE VIE SOCIALE, ET D'AUTRE

PART AU TRAVERS DE SON SACRIFICE ET DE LA RÉACTION DU PEUPLE

JUIF ET NOTAMMENT DE SA JEUNESSE, EN MONTRANT AUX ISRAELIENS

It is very sad to realize that some people didn't
give value to what a great man like Rabin did for his country

He offered his whole life to help the jewish people to have

their(or our) own space to live in peace and harmony.

Seems like some religious people don't understand that they

live in a democracy and the destiny of a state will be decided

at the Knesset where the people is represented.

Good luck

It is a terrible death and yet at the same time a
wonderful death. Look at the love and thanks that the world gave to
the one man on top of the world peace process. In Israel there will be
a stamp issued in memory of Mr. Rabin. I hope that someone may get Mr.
Clinton to force to issue this same stamp in the United States also.
This is a world wide mourning that we are encountering here, and it
would be freat for the United States to also join in respecting the
most important man of this day.

I am very upset when I heard that Yitzhak Rabin died.

When President Clinton and Yitzhak Rabin's

granddaughter gave their speech it moved me

and I was crying until they finished giving their speeches.

I was also moved about the whole funeral service as well.I hope you
take my deep sympathy and

thoughts because it is from my heart.

The assasination of the Prime Minister was a
horrible

remaining what the Israelis should not take as a mesure

of not agreeing with the Gov. policy. Be patient, cultural,

forgiving in any place. In the street, rood, home, parlament.

Terat your oposition accordingly.

If you want the country to stay alive!
