Dear Mrs. Rabin: We live in Boise, Idaho. Our synagogue (the only one in Idaho) hosted a service for Prime Minister Rabin. It was full to capacity, with about 50 pecent non-Jews. Mr. Rabin is respected for his courage, conviction and accomplishments. Having seen and heard you on news broadcasts, we feel your strength and courage as well. Although the world has lost a great leader and visionary, it seems clear that the power of his work has not diminished -- his work is being continued; his vision is seen; and, we pray, his goal of peace will be realized. Recently, I have been studying the history of Israel in a class called Middle East Politics. I went home for the weekend and learned about the death of Rabin. I was shocked because I never dreamed he would be killed during a peace movement and by a Jewish extremist. The funny thing about death is that we never know when our number will be called. I believe that Rabin did some unforgettable things for Israel and he brought them closer to peace than any other leader. For this I respect him and take his death personal. I send my deepest regrets to his family. Thank you for allowing me to share my feelings. Stephanie Williams Hendrix College Box 3681 1601 Harkrider Street Conway, Ar 72032-3080 USA

I am terrible sorry for what happened. It is beyond beleif to try to understand why a jew would kill another jew. Especially a man who has given so much to Isreal. I am a police officer in Los Angeles, I also belong to a small group of jewish officers around Los Angeles County. We got together last week to discuss what had happened and what we hope for in the future. We decided that what is best for Isreal is the quest for peace. If there is any good that comes from this tradegy, that would be the strenghening of the peace process. There has been enough killing in that region of the world its time to stop so that future generations can live in peace. I have never visited Isreal and I have relatives that live there. But I can garantee that on my next vacation from work, which is in the beginning part of April, I will finally visit Isreal. Take care and my deepest sympathyies go out to the Rabin family. SHALOM

It is with great sadness that I am sharing my anger, grief and frustation at the senseless assasination of Yitzhak Rabin. Truly, no greater visionary has existed in modern times. Why is it when a leader takes a courageous stand towards peace his mission is cut short by a radical's bullet? The enemy within is more dangerous than any "terrorist". This has been proven historically in several countries including the United States-- Abraham Lincoln, Mahatma Gandhi, John F. Kennedy, Anwar Sadat, to name a few. These men were murdered by their own.I strongly believe that the peace process must go on and shall go on. The legacy of Mr.Rabin will not die.

Although I didn't completely agree with Prime Minister Rabin's recent political initiatives, I mourn his loss as I would a member of my family. All Jews are connected, whoever they are and wherever they are. G-d weeps when one Jew senselessly and selfishly takes the life of another. The world weeps when the victim is a person of Yitzhak Rabin's stature, courage and vision. He now joins the ranks of Jewish martyrs who have died for their people, their land and their faith. I extend my sincerest condolences to his family and pray that they find a measure of comfort in the respect and love the world has shown for him.

Moses and Aaron have two differnt attributes in the Torah. Moses tended to follow the word of the law...exactly word for word, he followed the law of G-d. Of Aaron, The mishna says he was always pursuing peace. There is a Midrash about Aaron. A husband and wife were bitterly arguing. Aaron spoke to the husband individually and he bitterly complained to him about his wife. Aaron spoke to the wife individually and she bitterly complained to him about her husband. Aaron, however, to her that her husband bitterly wept because he missed and praised her beauty highly. Likewise, Aaron told the husband that his wife bitterly wept because she missed and highly praised him. In essence Aaron lied to preserve the Truth. When Aaron passed away, all of Israel wept. Likewise, when Yitzhak was assisinated all if Israel is in mourning. Hillel the elder says we should strive to be like Aaron. We should commend Yithak for "veyohavta leraycha comocha" Loving a neighbor as oneself. The basis of the entire Torah.

I would tell you that he was witty and engaging, and loyal to a fault, if such a thing is possible. I would tell you of his great success, how he was admired by his subordinates, respected by his superiors, and loved by his family. I would tell you that he managed all this despite the death of a wife and a chronic disease. Dear Rabin Family, Living in USA, I was trying to explain to my American boyfriend why tears are rolling and I'm shaking over the terrible murder of your husband, father and grandfather, and I realized how much Itzhak Rabin was a part of me, part of my identity as an Israeli, as a human being. He was always there in my world, taking different roles as an officer, as Chief Of Staff, as prime minister, as someone solid who is bigger than life! I can remember singing "Natser Mechake leRabin.."as a young girl in Israel. For me, Itzhak Rabin represents the back bone of Israel and holds a place in my heart next to Golda Meir and David Ben Gurion as one of the founders of Israel. If I feel such a feeling of loss and emptiness, like a lost kid, I can only send my love and support to you, because for you he was so much more. Lea, I'm proud of you for having the guts to point the finger at those who started the trend of hatred and personal attacks. They (especially B. Netanyahu) need to take responsibility for their actions and the consequences. I still can't believe that Rabin is not here anymore, it's seems like assasanations can happen only in other countries, to other people, far from home. I send my love to all of you and am hoping that you will find strength in your heart and in the love from others, to go on because Rabin and what he stood for, can never be killed, it's in the soul of Israel and our people! Israel was different. Different than the rest of the world. Different in moral and behavior. Different both in small things as much as in huge ones. Different in the fact that we didn't have MacDonnalds or Pepsi. Different from Egypt, the United States and many others, proud that in Israel, an assassination like that could never happen. We're not different any more. We have MacDonnalds and Pepsi, and most regretably, we no more can say that assassinations can never happen here. Let Rabin be the first and the last.

My family and I were shocked and saddened by the news of Prime Minister Rabin's death at the hands of a jewish zealot. The mark of a great leader is what we learned from his life. Mr. Rabin has taught us that a man can learn to live with all people, even those once considered enemies and those who have yet to prove their honest friendship. Peace can only come when we we are willing to take an enlightened chance. My wish for the Rabin family and all of Israel is that we hasten Messiah coming through peace.

To Leah Rabin and the entire Rabin Family, The grief and pain is so deep, yet your loss is greater. May you find some comfort in the great love expressed by so many for Yitzhak, z"l. A great leader has been lost! Let us all who love peace, pledge ourselves to work even harder for peace and to help Mr. Peres and the government to continue on the path that Yitzhak Rabin blazed for us and for all the generations to come. What happened Saturday was easily the darkest hour in modern Israeli history; all the terrorist attacks and wars were always Jew against Arab. Never was it Jew against Jew as it was disgustingly on Saturday. I hope the nation will now be united to overcome this terrible time. This tragedy also showed that Israel is not just a tiny piece of land of 5 million people. Israel will always be deep in the hearts of millions of Jews all over the world. The reaction to Rabin's was overwhelming everywhere. Also in little Switzerland. --Michael Lindecker 12.11.95

I and my family fill deep loss. We cannot stop crying when seeing any of your family members, or friends. We share your grief and wish that the will of Yitzhak will come true. It's not yet realistic to us. We are crying on the loss, on ourselves as people and human beings who let this crime happen. For us Yitzhak was all the good in this country. We identify very much with what Si Heiman said - we too slept better when knowing that the prime minister and leader is Yitzhak Rabin. We hope that all of will be strong enough to take responsibillity and make the necessary change. Shalom Haver. .

Dear Members of the Rabin Family, No man or woman can be a total hero at home - we are all human. Yet Prime Minister Rabin is a hero in the true sense of having both defended Israel as a home and haven for Jewish people, and of having worked for a just and secure peace which would allow Jews Palestinians, and all middle eastern peoples to live in peace. Shalom and god bless, Your friend, Eric Sommer

To the Family of the noble Mr. Rabin,
I can not tell you how much my heart was saddened to hear
that such an honorable and dedicated man was killed for his
works of peace. However I do realize that his cause was only
by his death. And I, though I am not Jewish, felt a great
deal of remorse to hear of his death. Your immotalized
family member put out so much to try and achieve the scoffed
at, laughed at, sneered at, scorned at, ideal: peace. Only
those who are truly strong and brave and loving can realize
what peace is and how to attain it. And Mr. Rabin was one of
those few genious' who felt it's warm power. You are an
honored family and I, as a distant insignificant, praise the one
who is the Modern Martyr.
Love and peace be with you,
YOUR FRIEND JON

I fear the bullet that struck the prime minister may have been the opening shot in a civil war. The cause for which Yitzhak Rabin lived will not die with him, but the way forward may become rockier. But when a commander falls, it is the responsibility of the rest of the unit to complete the mission. That is what will happen, and that is they way he would have wanted it.

Wishing all of my friends in Israel lots of strength in coping with this great loss. Whenever people asked me 'will you go back?' I answered, Yes, provided there is peace. This moment seemed so close during the last months, but now I'm confused and don't know what the future will bring. Let his death make people realize that the enemy is not always among the 'gojim', and that all should unite to protect this world from extremism. Finally I would like to express my support to 'Shalom achshav' the 'Peace Now'-movement.Don't be discouraged, go on with your fight for peace. Sjoukje

Being so far from the happenings overseas, its easy to forget how dangerous a little thing like working for an equitable peace is.
