Take strength, for he has given his life so that we may be

Rabin, were one of the few who took the time to exhchange holiday
greetings with me and even went so far as to include a picture of
yourself along with President Clinton and King Hussein of Jordan. You

With great sorrow, I watched the events of the past

weekend unfold. After so much Jew on non-Jew violence,

perhaps it is not so surprising that Jew on Jew violence

has been spawned, but this is so deeply saddening. So

particularly saddening in that it extinguished the life

of one who was committed to ending the horror of Jew on

non-Jew violence. May G-d commit the soul of Yitzhak Rabin

to an honorable place, and may his soul smile favorably

upon an Israel that picks up the pieces of its already

tattered innocence. May G-d bless the Rabin family with

peace and comfort. And may we all examine our own hearts

Perhaps good may come of this tragedy if 1) more
people make a personal commitment to the peace movement, 2) all of us
vow to raise the level of civility in our political discourse; and 3)
we carry with us for a very long time the scene of Jews, Christians and
Muslims at the late Prime Minister's gravesite, mourning together,
speaking of peace together, praying to our one God together.

tolerance

in vain

and that the senselessness of the tragedy might push Israelis

to come to their/our senses and work together in the cause of

peace. But I must thank his granddaughter, Noa Ben-Artzi, for

reminding us that even the grandest, most impressive heroes

are but human beings who leave behind a legacy of love and

kindness which those closest to them must endure in their

absence. Your moving tribute to your grandfather moved many

of us who did not know him the way you did.

I only hope that the warm feelings of those of us who

The words of Noa Ben Artzi reminded me that not only
was

Yitzhak Rabin a great international figure, but he was a

caring, thoughtful individual. Someone told me recently,

"News events like this don't affect me." To some, this may

have been just another tragedy on the news. To me, the

words of Noa helped remind people that there is another

dimension to Yitzhak Rabin that the media and even our

world leaders could not describe -- only his graddaughter

was able to talk about him as a person who cared about

others. I agree with Leah Rabin who said that now is the

time for people who believe in the peace movement but have

been silent, to speak out. News events like this should

affect people. We should never become desensitized to the

point that we no longer understand the sacredness of human

life...and of a life that has given so much to others and

to future generations.

It is our hope that the family will be comforted by
the
thought that so many people throughout the world appreciated
what Yitzhak Rabin has done for peace in Israel and the
middle east. He has left a wonderful legacy showing that
a man of war can also be a man of peace and that one has to
take chances with one's life to make the world better for all.

His death was not a waste. He died for something truly great.
As a warrior, he had been willing to give his life for his
country so it does not surprise us that he was not disuaded
by the death threats.

It would also be wonderful if for once, Israelies could learn
to disagree without such rancor. Now they see, sadly, what
happens when emotions are allowed to rage. Perhaps,
that would be an even better legacy as we still have to deal
with the settlements issues.

As skeptical as I am about the eventual worth of the
peace plan, none of the thugs who cut short his life are worthy to
shine his shoes. His was a life, a career that was a glory for his
people. Every time we drive from Tel Aviv to Jersualem, past the
rusted hulks of the vehicles that lifted the siege, we recall the
heroism of the brave men and women inspired by his courage and
resourcefulness. Zichrono livracah, achshav ul'olam.

We all, across the world, mourn the loss of Yizhak
Rabin. Truly a man

who devoted himself and sacrificed his life to make a difference in the

world. I hope the world does not take his unfortuante death as an end
to

his dreams, but rather unites us all to continue his fight. Let's not

let one murderer put an end to what is all of our hopes. We all carry

Rabin's flame inside our hearts.

My deepest condolence to all of ISRAEL for the loss
of a great leader and the loss of that special Israeli freedom of
expression, brought about by the manic inflammatory rhetoric of the few
misguided rabbis and settlers who attempt to cloak their actions in a
fake religous mantle.

May the peace process move forward following the path laid out by
Rabin. Shalom.

I have never understood in the past why people
reacted so strongly to the murders of other great world leaders...JFK,
Martin Luther King, Jr. etc. I do now. These men, as well as PM
Rabin, scared many people by challenging the status quo...and paid the
price for it. I am so sorry for your loss, and will always remember
