Alone in a hotel room far away from my family and friends in Israel I was hit with the tragic news of our Prime Ministers assassination. I still can not comprehend how we in Israel let ourselves be driven to such a frenzzy. One of the reasons I moved to Israel was the fact that we as a people were capable of resloving our problems via intelligent discussions and not force. The words of Noa Ben Artzi reminded me that not only was Yitzhak Rabin a great international figure, but he was a caring, thoughtful individual. Someone told me recently, "News events like this don't affect me." To some, this may have been just another tragedy on the news. To me, the words of Noa helped remind people that there is another dimension to Yitzhak Rabin that the media and even our world leaders could not describe -- only his graddaughter was able to talk about him as a person who cared about others. I have never understood in the past why people reacted so strongly to the murders of other great world leaders...JFK, Martin Luther King, Jr. etc. I do now.
