What has happened is a horror that tears at the
heart of

every Jew, regardless of political and religious belief.

It is my fervent prayer that Jews at all points on the

political spectrum come now to re-learn how to feel the pain

of one another. The hope of the future only lies in a

renewed Ahavat Yisrael, which must be genuinely felt by those

both on the right and on the left toward one another. May

God send us all a true and lasting comfort.

I cannot adequately express the loss inside I feel.
While I know I can do little to replace the loss of
such a man, he is in my thoughts, and I shall strive
in everyway to continue the worldwide process of
bringing peace.

Until every single person realizes that violence
never solves a problem, we shall always suffer
great losses. It is good that we have within
ourselves the strength to go on, to continue.
I believe that we will all need that strength.
I offer mine to you and everyone else that feels
this loss.

Let us work for a better tomorrow when no person
feels that their religious or racial background
gives them the right to put their own desires over
another's needs.

TO THE RABIN FAMILY:

We are pained by your personal loss and share in your personal
mourning. We are also pained by the continuing conflicts internal to
Israeli society, among Jews. Political rhetoric is a killer of people
and of ideals. Yitchak Rabin knew that the course of peace is fraught
with difficulties and pain. He said so in his last speech. We, the
Jewish people of the communities which are outside of Israel, know that
civilized discourse among the leaders of Israel is integral to the
quality of life that we all aspire to. Maybe that is the lasting
legacy of the assassination. We hope that it is. Afterward, we can
think about a process of peace with others.

May you and all the people of Israel gain comfort and strength from the
quality of life exemplified by Y. Rabin.

As I was wondering in the Israeli's Kings Square,

soon to be called "Rabin's Sqare", I came accross

a sentence that was written with candles. the sentence

said: "When a small man forms a large shadow - it's

a sign that sunset has arrived", and I cannot stop thinking

about this great great man, who has done so many things

for everyone, who contributed all that he could to his

country in which he believed so much.

I keep telling myself that it's just a nightmare - I just

cannot accept the fact that he's gone.

I'm sharing your terrible grief, and hope that Itzhak,

wherever he is, is happy, and can see our agony and pain.

I would like to share a touching experience I had
with

Yitzchock Rabin that hopefully, will be consoling and

comforting to the Rabin Family. How much more is the grief of family
members in relation to the grief of a nation, and the world, for that
matter.

A few years ago I had viewed a television

documentary on the history of the State of Israel

narrated by Abba Eban. At the end of the 6 part

series, your husband, Yitzchock Rabin, narrated

the last few minutes of the documentary at the

conclusion of all 6 parts. On view was an aerial

view of Tel-Aviv moving from the shore eastward.

He gave a sincere rendition on his feelings about

the progress of the dream called "Israel". He

mentioned he was born in 1922, and that in the

infancy of the new state in 1948 it was unfathomable

to think of all the progress that has taken place

over nearly half a century. Where there was desert,

there were now fields of growing fruit; Where there

was wilderness there is now forests; Where there

were no cities, there are now giant skyscrapers.

Israel had become a "nation among the nations" - a

nation from the ashes of the Holocaust and 2,000

    years of suffering.

Well, that narrative kept coming up in my mind, time

and time again. Finally, I was so touched to see a

land that has progressed so much, given us Jews in

the Diaspora so much pride, that I had to visit the

land myself after a 15-year absence. What surprise

to see such a beautiful land - a land that has moved

so technologically forward, a people with a standard

of living unthinkable just a few years ago, roads

and highways traversing each other where none ever

existed. I was so touched and so moved that I

believed the dream has come true!

What was a dream then is reality now! That is

because people like Yitzchock Rabin had a vision,

a vision of hope, a vision that tomorrow will be

    better.

I hope this ancedote is comforting to you and your loved ones.

                  With deepest sympathies,

                        Ben Adler

man.

I didn't tend to agree with the way he conducted the

campaign for peace, and were I an Israeli, I might have

voted against him. But there is no denying the fact that

he was a great hero of Israel in war and peace as well.

It is also certain that it is utterly inexcusable in any

Jewish sense for one man to judge another with a gun,

of the Jewish nation. How dare this murderer make such a

I met Mr. Rabin in 1993 during a trip to the Middle
East when I was a graduate student at the Fletcher School of Law and

The Prime Minister, over tired from working on the peace negotiations
and having had little sleep due to demonstrations outside his

house al night long, still took the time to meet with our delegation to
discuss developments in the peace talks. I was very impressed

by his stamina for a man of advanced years, bearing such a heavy
burden. As a Jew, and a student of international affairs, I have to
say

meeting Mr. Rabin was one of the high point in my life. I was so
stunned upon hearing of his assasination that I could hardly think
straight

all night. May you rest in peace Mr. Rabin. You deserved a better end
than this.

It was with great shock and

disbelief that I was first made

aware of Rabin's death. Only

after the worldwide reaction,

did I truly start peeling away

the layers of the situation and

become able to think through

my feelings. When details became

available, acknowledging who

had committed this terrible

act, Iwas deeply saddened and

astounded that such an incident

could really come to pass - a Jew

killing another Jew. No act of

violence or aggression should come

out of a clash in political

ideologies and policy. Only

through an appropriate forum

should differences of opinion

be expressed, and never by

eliminating the opposition in

such a tragic means to an unknown

end - in a battle of the brain using

blood.

I sincerely hope that only

good will come out of such a

terrible act, and perhaps now

unification of all Jews, regardless

of politics and religious affiliations

will bring to life an intrinsically

positive concept of k'lal y'israel.

career and his love of his country. We went to our temple

the day before as well, and sung the Hatikvah, and I want

you to know that the synagogue was packed with people of

all ages. But most of all, I want you to know that the

beautiful homily of Noa Ben-Artzi Philosof put all the

other speakers to shame.

The grace of your family I will never forget.

My family and I can only offer the solace of wonderful

memories, and my wife, who was born in Haifa, still says:

we must go to Israel. Soon we will find a way.

ASSASSINATION

Auwe! Auwe! O God!

He died with a song

of peace in his heart:

Warrior for freedom;

martyr for peace! Who, now,

will care more for visions

of things to come, rather

than old angers? Who,

tomorrow, will dare wash blood

away? Who will be able

to staunch all parents tears

with hope of milk and honey?

Ytzhak Rabin is dead ...

a blessed peacemaker,

a child of God.

With the death of the Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin
the state of Israel may have a hard time in the continuation of the
peace process. Rabin was a great leader and his presences will truly
be missed. However, the peace process must be continued.

As the treasurer of the Jewish Student Union at the State University of
New York at Buffalo, New York, I would like to send my condolences to
the family and all the people of Israel. The Jewish Students at UB are
in full support of Peres and the peace process.

May the ideas of Rabin live in the minds of Jews and all people around
the world. The peace process may be difficult for the Jews and the
Muslims to continue, especially with the death of one of the
proprietors. However, the peace process must continue and even with
all the changes in Israel, the peace process will continue.

I send my message of luck to Peres and once again send my condolence to
the family, the land of Israel and the entire world.

															Sincerely,

															Curtis Bernstein

the goal of a just, secure peace for all will be attained.

We must all support the peace process and speak out against irrational
extremism, so that

Prime Minister Rabin's legacy of peace will be fulfilled and he will
not have died in

vain. Only a few short years ago it would have been inconceivable to
contemplate the real

possibility of peace for Israel and to imagine Arab leaders in a Jewish
Jerusalem, weeping over

an Israeli friend. It is only because of the true bravery of Mr. Rabin
that this has come about.

May the good that will come from this be at least a partial consolation

Words are insufficient in a situation such as this.
The pain, sorrow, and grief that we feel is great, but clearly not as
great as the personal loss felt by Mr. Rabin's family. I gasped in
horror when my wife informed me of the news that she heard on CNN, and
I still somehow keep hoping that it is all a dream. But it is not.
What remains a dream, and a dream that can be realized, is the dream of
peace that Mr. Rabin worked for. We do not live in a simple world.
That events of the past few days illustrate that clearly. But our task
is to work for good with what we have been given, whether in large or
small measure, and thereby create a better world. And Israel can live
in peace only in such a better world, and its people and its borders
and its young and its old will be secure only in such a better world.
We will never have guarentees against violence, we will always have
enemies, and this is not the last time that we will feel pain, loss,
and sorry. I believe that Mr. Rabin knew this to be true, and knew
that military might can protect only against guns but not against pain.

May God comfort the family of Yitzhak Rabin among all those who mourn
in Israel. May God comfort us all, and may God teach us to love peace,
pursue peace, love all of creation, and bring ourselves closer to Torah
for good and for life. *Kein y'hi ratzon*
