When I heard of his asassination, I felt a pang of emptiness and loss in the pit of my stomach. It recalled a time when I was 9 yrs. old and felt that same pang with the loss of President Kennedy. I think it is a terible tragedy that such a great man was taken away from us before his mission here was done. Every minute of the last several days, Yitzhak's face has stayed within my thoughts. As an American Jew, his presence has been a part of my consciousness sice I learned as an 11 year old child of his prominent role in the 1967 war. When ever I thought about the world and about the state of Isael, Yitzhak Rabin was part of those thoughts. Perhaps the best thing that can be said is that he is the embodiment of the State of Israel. He was born on its holy soil, he grew and matured as it was struggling to become a nation and he evolved as it did toward its destiny--PEACE-- I cannot imagine Israel without Yitzhak Rabin. Someone quoted Rabbi Kook about the unmotivated hatred that destroyed the Second Temple and the unmotivated love that the Third will require. I remember hearing Yitzhak Rabin many years ago at a small Labor Party meeting in Haifa. In response to a question from a schoolteacher, he said no, he was sorry, but for budgetary reasons his government would not be affording priority to the subject of education, important though it was. I would say that I witnessed unmotivated honesty. I doubt that in this political world we will see it again.

A few years ago, on the day Menahem Begin was burried, I wrote on the bathroom wall in the Technion the following: "Today, Menahem Begin, the man who gave us our most glorious and important peace, and who involved us in a stupid useless war, was burried.
