COMFORT FOR THOSE WHO MOURN
So many people imagine that death cruelly
separates us from our loved ones. Even
pious people are led to believe this great
and sad mistake. When our loved ones die,
they do not leave us. They remain. They
do not go to some dark and distant place.
They simply begin their eternity. We do
not see them because we are still in the
darkness of the world. But their spiritual
eyes, filled with the light of heaven, are
always watching us as they wait for the day
when we shall share their perfect joy. We
are all born for heaven and one by one we end
this life of tears to begin our life in endless
happiness. I have often reflected upon this
beautiful truth and found it the greatest and surest
comfort in time of mourning. A firm faith in the
real and continual presence of our loved ones has
brought the conviction and consolation that death
has not destroyed them, nor carried them away.
Rather, it has given them life! A life with power
to know fully and to love perfectly. With this new
life and new power our loved ones are always present
to us, knowing and loving us more than ever before.
The tears that dampen our eyes in times of mourning
are tears for homesickness, tears of longing for
our loved ones. But it is we who are away from home,
not they. Death has been for them a doorway to an
eternal home. And only because this heavenly home is
invisible to our worldly eyes, we cannot see them so
near us. Yet, they are with us, lovingly and tenderly
waiting for the day when we, too, will enter the door-
way of our eternal home. No, death is not a separation.
It is a preparation for eternal union with those we love,
in peace and joy of heaven.
Please take heed to reflect upon this passage. I am not
of the Jewish faith, I am Catholic. I do however, mourn
the loss of this great leader, family man and human being.
One whose only desire was to contribute, if not establish
himself, world peace; especially in Israel. I offer my
sincerest condolences. God help us through this time of
universal loss.

It's difficult for me as an American Jew to really comprehend the effect of Prime Minister Rabin's untimely death on Israel, but I feel great sadness over the death of such a courageous man. I repect him as a man who changed his fighting ways to those of peace, to make this world a better place for all human beings. I know someday when I visit a peaceful Israel, I will have him to thank for it. I pray that together we can overcome the extremists on both sides and achieve a lasting peace for everyone. Please accept my heartfelt condolences on your loss.

Here is a man that became a Peacemaker, the Bible says; Blessed are the Peacemakers for they shall be called the Children of God. Trully Yitzhak was a man of real Peace, he was willing to give of himself, as some say, that the land is life, and so Yitzhak gave of his life, just as Christ did many years ago. It is sad that not many are willing to see that ending bloodshed is a noble cause and worthy of giving that which is life, or 'Land', for in it we preserve life and that is what 'This' Man did! God Bless Mr. Yitzhak Rabin. From Victor an unknown

My sincere condolences to the Rabin Family and the people of Israel. Once a man of war, Rabin became a man of peace. He was probably instrumental in the Leabanon incursion of the early 1980's and finally determined, after hard and bit ter experience, that peace must be a mutual, not a unilateral, undertaking. The person who assassinated Rabin is more a son of Rabin than he at present may realize. But Rabin outgrew these narrow views. Perhaps, with time and experience, the young man w ho did this, will eventually come to a broader view of what constitutes the greatest good for Israel, her people, and the surrounding nations.

Let us not be concerned that a Jew has taken the life of another Jew. If we think this way we place the value of one life above that of another. It is this kind of thinking that steals the peace that is ours, given to us all freely by God but instead, let us all remember that we are all Gods creat- ion and precious in his sight. Let this act of a coward be the flame that gives us power to work for peace. If we do not, then the bullet does not kill just once, but will kill again and again till the end of our days. I thought it a publisity stunt & I waited for it to be over. Unfortunately, it was no stunt. I feel compelled to stated that being an religious Jew I know this lone gun man did not act for Judaism or Hashem. One of the worst sins in Judaism is a Chilel Hashem. (Desecration of G-d's name) I think this is exactly what this man has done. Please know this is a time of pain for all Jews throughout the world. I want to express my shock and dismay about this terrible act. I may not have agreed with the path that the peace process has been taking, but that is of little consequence at a time like this. No matter what happens, the Prime Minister will always be known as a peace maker. I only hope that this event will serve to bring the nation of Israel together, and help to promote peace within Israel as well as with her neighbors. My deepest sympathies to the family of the Prime Minister. May G- d bless his family and may G-d bless the nation of Israel.

Prime Minister Rabin's assasination is truly a trajedy. Irrespective of one's politics, noone would be able to deny his integrity and desire for peace. That desire, for peace, we shared; I do not agree with his particular approach to "buying" peace with land, and I would have liked to see a referendum give him the mandate to do that. Nevertheless, Rabin was a man of character who earned the respect of many whether ally or opponent -- he stood firmly convicted in persuit of peace. For this, he died, sadly; for this, and for his many significant contributions to Israel throughout its' modern history, he will be remembered, and missed. To the Rabin family, more than anyone else, you know the man, the father, the husband, the grandfather, that was stolen from you; you know the future of hopes and dreams, plans and desires, that was taken from you when he was so cruelly gunned down. THe world will never be the same, and your lives more than anyone elses will never be the ] same. All that I can promise you, is that there will be a time when that part of him that is in each of you will become a stronger companion than the hurt of his loss -- and when your memories of him will bring you happiness rather than sadness. Be'esrat Hashem, until then, Shalom.

I remenber this day of September 1993, I was on a
highway somewhere between Amsterdam and Brussels, I turned on the radio
and heard live from Washington
the signature of the Peace Treaty between Israel and Palestinians.
Tears came to my eyes.
And then I remenber when I was a little boy in Casablanca, I was
teached by my society that our enemy was Israel and Israelis because
they made war to Arabs and to Palestinians, that they took their land.
At school I remenber the antisemitic language, I used to hear. The
everydaylife remarks about Israelis and Jewish People.
I was always shocked, and always had conflict with my so-called
friends.
They thought they would insult me by calling me a jew because i never
shared their langage and their feelings.
But was it there fault? They were 14 or15 years old and so was I.
Today I accuse my society of what she had done to many generations, I
accuse some of our leaders who used the Israelo-Palestinian conflict as
a way of unifying people in their respective country, using hatred
against Israel and serving their own ambitions
.
Hatred became usual, people didn't even ask themself questions.Hatred
was part of their life.
I secretly dreamt of the day where Peace would come. When all this
hatred would be turned into love with the same energy.
I had a dream: this dream started to become a reality when I heard that
a peace
treaty was about to be signed between Yitzhac Rabin and Yasser Arafat,
two years ago now.
I was proud and happy to see that a courageous Israeli leader, Yitzhac
Rabin made a great step toward Peace and Mutual Understanding.
Now, these last three days were and will always be one of the sadest
days in my life:Days I will never forget because of their symbols:they
are full of lessons for our future.
From all the images I saw this weekend I always want to remenber :
The picture of the late Mr Rabin, singing at the peace rally.
The day of his funeral: with thousands of people from around the world,
of King Hussein of Jordan, Pres. Moubarak and all those arab leaders
who came to pay Duty to a Brave and Great Man : Yithzac Rabin
We should never forget the picture of the bloody paper : the text of
the peace song, that was found on his body. It's a duty for us to say :
Never This Again.
Yithzac Rabin fought for peace and died for peace but his ideas will
never die.
Thank You Mr Rabin for what you have done.
To the wife, children and family of Yithzac Rabin, I present my
condoleances.
To the people of Israel who believe in Peace, I present my
condoleances.
Sincerely

To the Rabin family: my deepest sympathies. I hope that you will find some solace in the great work done for Israel and the world by husband and father. His legacy will surely be a cornerstone of our efforts toward humanity. To Israel: Peace in the Middle East, understanding and harmony between Arabs and Israelis is in our grasp. We cannot let right-wing extremists deter us from this most human of goals. As an American citizen and a Jew, I have never been so proud of my heritage and as hopeful for humanity as I have with efforts put forth by Rabin, with the support of so many through- out the world in this quest for peace and civility. You have a right to be proud. Do not let this painful absurdity deter you.

Rabin was a great man, and a wonderful educator of peace. My prayers go to his family and to the world. May his memory rest in the peace of the years to come in the mi ddle east. I cry today in sorrow for the loss of a great human being.

It is not for Yitzhak that I weep. Not for him that sleeps forever now, In the folds of our land. In the land that he loved more than himself. No, it is not for him that I weep, (though I weep for sure) For his memory will live as he could not. As none do, for all die. We are all turned to dust. But I do weep, I weep rivers and cannot stop. I am drowning in tears and my mouth is dry I cannot speak...I am so afraid. For what we have become, for what we have lost. What has become of us--the conscience of the world? Where is our conscience? Where is our innocence... The child spoke well today, saying-- We cannot feel what she feels. So true, so sad. Oh Yitzhak? Are you destined to be only emblematic of our lost innocence. Teach me oh child of his child With your devastating tears With tears of Ha-shem that rend our hearts. Weep child and cleanse this stain from our land-- from our souls, but let us not forget. And as for you. You for whom I shudder and cannot name Shame and utter shame. And have you forgotten from whence comes our claim to this land? Nothing but Morality--None else-- Without it all battles were for nought. Without it no battles could be fought. Oh let me not forget this day in a month or year in a rash thought, in fear. Give me courage and strength As Yitzhak's own in war and in peace. Would I had his courage and his strength To continue to be humble and to weep. Then may the heavens open and deliver us mercy.

In 1975, while I was Mazkir of Kibbutz Keturah, located north of Yotvata in the Arava, Yitchak Rabin came to visit, tour the kibbutz, and seek out what he could do to help the chevrei meshek. He was personable, sincerely interested, an d direct. It was not a visit for political reasons -- the visit was not mentioned in the newspapers or on the radio. He made the visit because it was the right thing to do. That is the measure of a true leader and statesman. Doing something that is ri ght, not just for political gain. The world is suffering a great loss. My deepest condolences to the Rabin Family.

Let us embody the best of Yitzh ak Rabin's qualities and the vision and determinatio in this moment of loss and reflection. Yitzhak Rabin made heroic choices. Whatever one's beliefs about political ideologies, an architect of peace should hold a special place in our hearts and our minds, for these are the few brave souls who are willing to battle themselves internally to do what is best for humanity. Prime Minister Rabin, I salute you. Forever in my heart, Kallan Resnick.

Dear Mrs. Rabin, On behalf of myself, my husband and our son Jeremy, please accept our deepest condolences during this very difficult time for you and your family. Prime Minister Rabin was a great inspiration to the entire world. He worked at achieving what all parents want for their children: a world full of peace and understanding. I truly believe that peace will come to Israel now more than ever before. I saved all of the articles from the New York Times regarding Prime Minister Rabin and I plan to share them with my son when he is old enough to understand who your husband was and what he stood for. I hope that you know that people from all over the world are sending you their thoughts. Sincerely, Jill Nadison (Hoboken, New Jersey, USA)

Dear Rabin family,
I'm dreadfully stunned by this terrible incident,
especially since it was done by a Jew. I know how you must
feel, because my grandfather died. It doesn't
feel good. I'm so sorry this happened, & I hope it never will
happen again. I also hope that there will soon be peace, just
like Yitzhak wanted. I am a Jew myself, & I know that this
man was totally crazy! I know that G-d doesn't want us to
kill.
Sincerely,

My daughter spent the summer visiting Israel and was so impressed with the country's beauty. With the peace process underway we all felt that perhaps now that beauty could be enjoyed without the cloud of war continuing to cast a shadow on the land. We are deeply sorrowful about the senseless killing of a man who sought peace, and fervently pray that the process he started will come to fruition. To the Rabin family and to the State of Israel we express both our sorrow and hope for a brig hter tomorrow.

I am deeply saddened by the death of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, who had demonstrated that he was not only couragous in defending his country by force if necessary, he was also couragous and visionary in his effort to bring peace, and associated with it, security and a bright future to his own country and the mankind. I can not express enough my condolence to his family and to the Israeli people. I sincerely hope that people will continue the legacy of Mr. Rabin and use the lasting peace he had fought and died for to show the extremists on both sides that only love, cooperation and rationality will prevail.

I am sad because a man who was working for peace in the region has died. I hope his mission will be fullfilled. I believe that muslims and jews can live with love and happiness with each other. I am a muslim but jewish traditions and rites and their basic religous beliefs are so close to Islam because they were among the first to believe in One and true God. I hope the vision of Mr.Rabin will be understood better by the leaders of that region. My sympathies are with his family.Prophet Mohammad (P.B.U.H)made peace with jews and always advised muslims to maintain their contract as long as the other party maintains it. I hope both Arab muslims and the Israelis will maintain their peace accord and will save the holy city and land from further blood shed. Amen. This is the only way to pay back to the soul of this great man of our times. May God bless his soul in peace.

I give my condolences to the Rabin family, the friends of Mr. Rabin, and the people of Israel. As I watched in shock and disbelief as the news of the shooting was on TV, I cried. As a 16 year old Jewish American student, I have not experienced much in life. However, in the short time that I knew of him, Yitzhak Rabin was one of my few heroes. I hope the people of Israel will unite behind the late Prime Minister's hopes for full, comprehensive peace. Do not allow this to stop the peace process. I urge the peoples of the Middle East to continue their struggle for peace. I will, and always will be a supporter of the State of Israel. I am glad to say that I had visited Israel during one of Rabin's greatest accomplishments, the Non-belligerence treaty with Jordan. I deplore the people of Israel to continue Rabin's work so future generations can reap the benefits of the "Israel Experience." Again, my condolences to the Rabin family.

Mr. Rabin has made a tremendous difference in the Middle East. Three years' ago nobody would have thought that peace can be possible. Today it is, thanks to him. Who would have that that Arab leaders would eulogize an Israeli leader on Israeli soil?? Mr. Rabin made unbelievable things believable and the world is a better place because of him. I was particularly impressed by the Noa's euligy. May peace be with the bereaved family.

In 1982 I attended school the International School in Vienna. One of my best friends was a Palestinian girl, from whom I learned quite a lot about the need for peace--and for a Palestinian state--in the Middle East. I spent the intervening years wondering how peace could happen, and feeling tremendous empathy for her plight, and not having much idea at all what to do about any of it. I had also absorbed some of her bitterness towards Israel. Then Mr. Rabin came back into office a few years ago. All of a sudden the future of both Israel and Palestine seemed much clearer, seemed possible in fact. I don't know about the rest of the world, but he made it possible for me at least to accept, and indeed to believe in, the nation and the people of Israel. He was an unbelievable force, and the world is better for having had him in it. I am terribly saddened by your loss, by your private pain, as well as the sorrow the world is experiencing with you. God bless you--his family and his country.

The work Yitzhak Rabin did for peace is stronger than his death, and he will endure in the peace that will come to Israel, the peace that he will have been instrumental in bringing. May all of our pain at his loss translate into a continuation of his work and a determination to see his dream come true. His memory is a blessing.

For 2000 years we were the Hagars and Ishmaels of this word. Rabin bought us back to our house, house of our father Abraham. Now, he had the courage to share our house with the real sons of Ismahel. His heart is bigger than the heart of Abraham.

As Jews, we as a people have been the subject of persecution throughout history. No matter what our differences may be, political or religious, we must always remain united because there will always be those who will seek to use Jews as scapegoats. To those who would fan the flames of anti-Semitism, it makes no difference the political or religious views of those they seek to persecute. Never again should we be divided by our own hand.

On my first day as a young soldier, I had the honor to meet Yitzhak Rabin, who was interviewing for TV. At the end he shook my hand and wished me success. Today of all times I consider that day to be one of my happiest and luckiest of all. The Warmth and the Light ------------------------ Yesterday I went to visit the place where our late prime minister Yitzhak Rabin has gave his life in a moment in which he must have felt very happy. After hearing and seeing such slander against this man for the past few years, Yitzhak Rabin faced a crowd that is estimated to be around 150,000 people, giving him what turn out to be the their last respect while he was alive. I wonder what prime minister Rabin had felt standing in front of this amazing crowd, among some of the most admired performers in Israeli music - singing in joy and in respect songs for peace. The peace which has been his dream, both as a military leader and a great political one. It is sad but these sad and terrible events of death are exposing the best of what our people have to offer - The strong feeling of warmth and light the came out from the thousands of candles arranged in between pictures and touching quotes, seemed to radiate from the souls of people surrounding them. The entire square seemed to glowing and the red candles scattered among the white ones have melted to what seemed like stains of blood. I could hear in the amazing silence people mumbling words like "it is terrible", "it is bad, very bad", and no eyes could be found that didn't have a glossy look of tears of shock and pain. Just at the rear parking lot where the piercing pain is at his peak, children of youth organizations surrounded by huge crowd were lighting up the candles that blew away from the wind that seemed cold as death itself. The wall of the municipal building that is facing the parking lot, has been covered by what would be considered an act of hooligans at any other day - hundreds and thousands of slogans, songs and everything that came to mind in this place of agony and distress. I don't remember such a sad day, we cannot let the dream of peace die with this man that seemed to be a part of the Israeli essence. His death might have been the shock that our people have needed to stop the domestic controversys and wakes us up to a time of all that is matter is the dream of this man that took his life. Yitzhak Rabin - a great man in his life and monumental in his death. With the most profound respect, admiration and hope, Avi Varon.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the family of Yitzhak Rabin. You should be very proud of his efforts to end the years of bloodshead and fighting that has plagued the Middle East. For the first time, the Middle East now has a real chan ce to see true and sincere peace, thanks to his efforts. He died fighting for his beliefs, for his country, and for the promise of a better life for many people. There isn't a nobler way to die than that.

My condolences to the Rabin family. Although he may not be with us, his spirit will live on through the peace agreements with the Palestinians and Jordan. His leadership brought courage and assurance to the Israeli people to take these gallant and bold steps through this uncharted territory called peace. His life did not go in vain as it was shown through the number of world leaders who stopped everything to attend his funeral. It was a site to see Arab delegations from Jordan, Egypt,Oman, Morroco, Qatar, and Mauritania in attendance. He brought respect and admiration to Israel worldwide. Shalom.
